Gringa en Lima

Last week, a good friend in Lima sent me an invitation to his fiftieth birthday party- how could I say no?! Aside from delivering a fantastic surprise to my friend while drinking champagne and dancing all night like a kid, it was a chance for me to EAT in all my favorite Lima spots!
Many restaurants come and go in Lima, but one endures the test of time- La Gloria. La Gloria restaurant in Miraflores is a timeless classic right in the heart of Lima. My friend Daniela and I have a newly minted tradition of starting of each visit with a decadent meal this neighborhood favorite. We cozied up to the bar and brought to our lips the ripe chill of perfectly mixed pisco sours. The seasoned bar tender promptly brought over a small dish of crisp papas with a light tomato salsa. Every visit to La Gloria should start with a trago at the intimate bar.

Our mouths watered as we took in the rich sights and smells of the warm dining room. For our entrada, we shared a delicious tomato confit with baked mozarella and pesto. We'd come hungry and both dove into our next plates- for Daniela, housemade linguine with mushrooms and goat cheese, and for me the oven roasted corvina (with a hint of cumin?) and a smooth puree of papas. We couldn't resist dessert! Daniela made the healthy choice of chirimoya and oranges, while I opted for full-fledged decadence- a flourless chocolate torte with almond and pistachio ice cream...wow. Every trip to La Gloria restaurant is truly a night to remember!
